I’m in Chicago. I think the Midwest is like, the Canada of the US.
My family’s from there (I’m from the Deep South Gulf Coast region), and I’m housesitting/catsitting for my uncle while he’s in physical rehab after an injury. (He’s been sick off and on over the last couple years, and his house was like… that Hoarders TV show or /r/neckbeardnests. We think he has either early onset dementia, or sequelae from a small stroke that went undetected. He needs a neuropsych eval for sure.)
The midwest is… different.
- The trees are different and kind of neat. Totally different floristic province up here.
- It’s so nice and cool outside! It’s like 75-85 most of the time. It’s nice having it not be 100 degrees with the heat index and like 90% humidity. You can actually, like, go outside during the height of the day without, like, dying.
- People are super friendly.
- Shit’s nicer. Like, spiffier and cleaner. Looks a LOT less economically depressed up here.
- Supposedly there’s a real, actual red fox in this neighborhood that comes around at night.
